Kaluwala Ella is a small but beautiful waterfall lying in the Monaragala District close to the Wellawaya town. As you travel 2 km on the Boralanda road from Ella Junction in Wellawaya, you will reach an water purification plant called Ice Peella. Thus this waterfall is also known as the “Ice Peella Ella”. Close to its fence lies a foot path which ends up at a stream. There is a canal across this stream which should be crossed with caution.
After crossing this stream one would come across another stream with a lovely waterfall with a deep base pool. The natural pool on top of the waterfall is relatively safe and it’s one of the best bathing sites in the whole district.
