The most northern point of Sri Lanka lies on the edge of the road between Kankesanturai and  Valvettithurai. There is a misconception that the Northern point of Sri Lanka is marked by the Point Pedro Lighthouse but the correct point lies 4.2 km to the west of the lighthouse.

This point is marked by a concrete board on the edge of a correl with a Sri Lankan Flag painted on it.  This site is easily reachable by any vehicle along the road which goes along the beach. A small army camp lies on a small stretch of beach. You could stop your vehicle here and walk up to this point over waves and corral reefs right after the liberation of Jaffna in 2009.

However, now the Corel area between the flag point and the land has been filled and a small fishing village exists.

Getting there

From the Jaffna Town, you need to take the Palali Road. Ask for Keerimalai from the local folks or any army checkpoint. This is a very popular place now that the roads have been opened. If you like to have a peaceful bath, you need to go early morning since there will be a busload of people coming there towards the afternoon. The route to Dambakola Patuna Viharaya also lies passing this pond.
