The Abhayagiri Aramic Complex (Abayagiri Temple) was made of four mulas, fraternities, or institutions for religious teaching. They were Uttara Mula, Kapara Mula, Mahanetpamula and Vahadu-mula. Uttara Mula is the name that identifies the most ancient congregation of bhikkus in the Abhayagiri Monastery and their headquarters. In ancient times when the the sacred tooth relic of Buddha was in Abhayagiri, Uttara Mula Bikkus were the custodians of it. The remains of the Dalada Maligawa (The Shrine of the Tooth Relic) can be seen in this area.

Driving Directions to Uttara Mula of Abayagiri Monastery (Anuradhapura)
Anuradhapura can be reached through many routes from Colombo. The two main routes are through Puttalam (Puttalama) and through Kurunegala. Travelling from Puttalam, you will pass the scenic Wilpattu area. From Kurunegala, there are two main routes to Anuradhapura. The most common route is through Dambulla. The other route is through Galgamuwa. Out of all the routes, the most commonly used is the Kurunegala-Dambulla route (Route 2).
