Balalla Dimbulgiri Tampita Viharaya
Balalla town is located on the Padeniya-Anuradhapura road in the Kurunegala district. Dimbulgiri Rajamaha Viharaya is located near the Balalla Wewa close to the main road. This temple lies 17 km from Padeniya and 9 km from Yapahuwa.
It is said that there were 7 Tampita Vihara temples associated with 7 rocks in this area. Some of them are Handungiriya, Devagiriya, Nilagiriya, Dimbulgiriya and Ambulgiriya. Tampita Vihara was a popular architectural feature during the Kandyan kingdom where the temple was built on a platform which was held on an array of pillars, mostly stone.-0-
Balalla Dimbulgiri Tampita Viharaya is built on 16 stone pillars which are 99 cm high. A circumambulating path runs around the image house. It is 0.79 m wide in all four sides. The size of the image house is 4.14×2.71 meters and the building is 5.7×4.3 meters in size.
