The source of the Diyathiri Ella waterfall is a tributary of the Maha Oya (river), which springs from a height of 1574m on the northwest slope of Gentry Box Mountain. After the 30m drop of the fall, the water flows 125km to the sea at Waikkal, north of Negombo in the Kammala area. Nawalapitiya in Nuwara Eliya District is the nearest town. From here take the road towards Dolosbage for 20km – the fall is situated between Meenagala Estate and a protruding rock face.
The Pusselawa rest-house is 49km away and the Kitugala rest-house is 44km, which you can reach via the Nawalapitiya – Ginigathena road.
