Historical Background
Based on the archaeological characteristics of the surviving remains, these ruins have been identified as the remnants of ancient structures dating to the Anuradhapura period.
Location and Nature of Archaeological Evidence
At this site, the remains of two buildings constructed along an east–west axis have been identified. The two structures are situated approximately 6 meters (20 ft) apart from one another and are represented by their stone pillars. The standing pillars measure approximately 0.5 meters (1.6 ft) in height.
One of the structures retains five stone pillars in their original upright positions, while the second structure contains nine stone pillars.
One of these buildings has suffered considerable damage as a result of treasure hunting. The foundation and the associated stone pillars belonging to the original structure have tilted and collapsed. Furthermore, several pillars located approximately 70 meters (230 ft) southwest of this site may have been displaced from this building and moved to their present location.
To the north of the site, and approximately 150 meters (490 ft) to the east, additional building locations containing evidence of stone pillars have been identified. It appears that land development for agricultural activities has caused extensive damage to these areas containing archaeological remains. Ancient artifacts can also be observed scattered across these locations.
