Eachvaiyadi Archaeological Ruins in Kiran (කිරාන් ඊච්වෛයඩි පුරාවිද්‍යා නටබුන්)

The Anurādhapura-period Eachvaiyadi ruins in Kiran, Batticaloa comprise two distinct structural clusters: one featuring four stone pillars and another containing seventeen stone pillars, located 50 meters apart. Used for paddy cultivation, the site suffers from displaced, fallen, and partially buried artifacts.

The Eachvaiyadi Archaeological Ruins are located in the village of Perillaveli, within the Grāma Niladhāri Division of Perillaveli (209), in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Kōrale Pattu South (Kiran), in the Batticaloa District.

Access Route

Starting from Kiran Junction, travel via Pulipanjakal and the 5th Mile Post towards the Sodian Reservoir. Turn right at the Kokkaddichcholai Junction and proceed for approximately 400 meters (1,312 ft) along the Thadana Road. The ruins are situated approximately 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) along a by-road branching off from the Thadana Road.

Historical Background

Based on the archaeological characteristics of the remains, these ruins have been identified as the remains of ancient structures dating to the Anuradhapura period.

Location and Nature of Archaeological Evidence

Archaeological remains associated with stone pillars have been identified at two separate locations within the site. At one location, four stone pillars have been recorded. Approximately 50 meters (164 ft) away, the remains of another structure containing seventeen stone pillars were identified.

A considerable number of fallen and partially buried stone pillars can be observed throughout the site. This archaeological site has been desecrated by using it for paddy cultivation, and the artifacts, including pillars, are displaced from the original locations.
