
A site of ruined buildings with granite pillars belonging to the ancient Digamadulla kingdom has been discovered on the Ekgaloya Wewa and this area of ruins were declared as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows ;
“Sites of the ruins of buildings with stone pillars in the middle of Ekgal oya tank belonging to Ekgaloya in Grama Niladari Division No. W/24/B Ekgaloya in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Damana in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 07º 15801′ N and longitude 081º 61287’E).”
GPS location is marked based on the above description. However it is recommended to get directions to the ruins beforehand.
