Little Adam’s Peak, also called Mini Adam’s Peak, is a well-loved hiking spot in Ella, Sri Lanka, celebrated for its stunning panoramic views and its easy-to-follow trail. Rising to 1,141 meters above sea level, the hike is gentle enough to be enjoyed by people of all fitness levels.

The area surrounding Ella, with its striking mountains, vibrant greenery, and sweeping tea plantations, is regarded as one of the most scenic regions in Sri Lanka — a perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Little Adam’s Peak gets its name from the famous Adam’s Peak located in the Ratnapura District, as the two peaks share a similar shape. However, Little Adam’s Peak is much smaller in size and far easier to climb.

Hiking Overview

  • Trailhead: The hike begins near the Ella Flower Garden Resort, approximately a 20-minute walk or a short tuk-tuk ride from Ella’s town center.
  • Distance & Duration: The trail spans about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) and typically takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete.
  • Trail Features: The path is well-marked and passes through lush tea plantations, offering scenic views throughout the ascent.
  • Summit Views: At the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys.​

Best Times to Visit Little Adams Peak in Ella

  • Weather Considerations: The best times to hike are during the dry seasons, when you would not find yourself in the middle of a heavy rain with no shelter.
  • Sunrise: Early morning hikes are popular for witnessing the sunrise, providing cooler temperatures and fewer crowds than during the evening.
  • Sunset: Evening hikes provide breathtaking sunset views, although evenings tend to be hotter and more crowded. However, it’s generally not recommended to hike during the afternoon, as the heat can be intense and the views are less impressive with the sun directly overhead.

What to Bring

  • Water: An adequate supply of drinking water
  • Footwear: Wear comfortable walking shoes or sneakers
  • Snacks: There are no food outlets at the top. So carry your own snacks.
  • Leech Protection: If there is any indication of rain or if it has rained recently, carry some leech repellent as a precaution. A spray can of diluted Dettol mixed with soap is a good home leech protection remedy.
  • A Waterproof Bag: To protect your valuables in case of rain.
