Handun Ella Falls is 30m in height and is said to have got its name from the profusion of sandalwood (Santalum album) trees found in the area. Take the minor road through Kitulgala and about 1km from Ginikiritha Reservoir Bridge, the fall is situated at a rubber plantation.
For a closer view, seek the assistance of a local guide as it is a difficult 2km trek. The Kitulgala rest-house is 5km away.
Curranty this waterfall is being used for adventure abseiling as an alternative to white water rafting at Kitulgala.
