The road to Mandaramnuwara from Padiyapelella is dotted with number of waterfalls, some seasonal, some perennial. Along this road flows the Belihul Oya, a stream originating from Piduruthalagala. This is not the more popular Belihul Oya which originates from Horton Plains.
The stream flows over rocks and boulders in most areas along the road to Mandaramnuwara creating many waterfalls on the river itself and and number of other streams fall on the Belihul Oya creating their own waterfalls. Hawari Oya is on such steam which flows from the mountains around Mandaramnuwara crossing the Mandaramnuwara Road and falling on to the Belihul Oya. The huge Hawari Oya waterfall is created on the last leg of the Hawari Oya stream just before it falls on the Belihul Oya.
