Archaeological Ruins on the Kapuraththala Gala Rock

The archaeological ruins at Kapuraththala Gala are located on a rocky hill in the Pelatiyawa Grama Niladhari division, within the Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat. These ruins are situated east of Wasgamuwa National Park, near the Manampitiya-Mahiyanganaya road.

This information is derived from a 1978 report by The Exploration Club of Hosei University in Japan, which conducted three extensive archaeological explorations in 1973, 1975, and 1976. No other information about this archaeological site is available.

This site is located about 4 km north by east of Allewewa village and about 7.7 km southeast of Yakkure village. The 1-inch map of Sri Lanka has this site marked as of ruins, a rock and a waterhole.

The site is divided into three sections across the rocky hill. The first section is located at the summit, where the remains of a dagoba, which has been dug into by treasure hunters (A), and two water holes (B) can be found. Below the dagoba on the slope of the hill, there are two additional water holes (C, photo C1, photo C2).

The second section is situated southwest of the hill, within the jungle. This area contains the remains of a flower altar (photo D1) and a stone pillar (D2). The flower altar is 2.6 meters long and 1 meter wide.

The third section is also on the southwestern side of the rock hill, where the remains of three ancient structures are present (E, photo E1).

The marker on the Google Map indicates an approximate location. It is advisable to seek guidance from a local villager before visiting the site.
