Kolamunna Sri Sugatharamaya Purana Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple featuring a Tampita Viharaya dating back to the Kandyan era. It is located between Narammala and Wariyapola, approximately 17 km from Narammala and 13 km from Wariyapola.

To reach the temple from Wariyapola, take the Kurunegala road for 5.7 km until you arrive at Kalugamuwa Junction. From this junction, turn onto the Wariyapola road. After traveling approximately 10 km, look for a small notice board directing you to a narrow road on your left leading to Sri Sugatharama Viharaya. The temple is situated 1 km down this narrow road.

The temple’s Tampita Viharaya is a traditional Kandyan-era structure built on a wooden platform supported by stone stumps, typically 3 to 4 feet tall. These structures generally have a timber-framed roof and walls usually made of wattle and daub, with the interior walls of the chamber almost always adorned with paintings in the Kandyan style.

Specifically, the Tampita Viharaya at Kolamunna Sri Sugatharamaya is supported by eight granite stumps arranged in two rows. Access to the image house is via a wooden staircase. A narrow circumambulating path, protected by a half-height wall, encircles the image house, widening only at the front.

Wooden pillars along this path support the roof, which is covered with flat clay tiles characteristic of roofs from the Kandyan Kingdom period. The entrance to the image house is notably plain, lacking statues or paintings, as do the outer walls, likely due to deterioration over time. The door frame is crafted in the style of a Sooryawanka (sun arch).

The Tampita Viharaya at Kolamunna Sri Sugatharamaya Rajamaha Viharaya was officially designated as a protected archaeological monument by the Department of Archaeology, under Gazette No. 1214, dated 07 December 2001. This structure underwent a restoration between 2009 and 2010, following a long period of neglect.
