About 5.5 km along the Kadigamuwa road from Mawanella, you will come across the Makehelwala Tampita Viharaya at Makehelwala Junction. Makehelwala Ambalama is located adjacent to a beautiful paddy field about 2 km along the Makehelwala road from this junction. Above Ambalama, the Alagalla rock mountain is a beautiful view. This Makehelwala road ends near the famous Ihala Kotte railway station. On the same trip you can visit the tunnel on this railway line and the Meeyan Ella Falls flowing over it.
This is a large the size of a brick and mortar. The roof is made of two layers. The pillars around the ambalama and the place where the two layers join support the large roof. The roof is tiled with flat clay tiles popular in the Kandyan period. Although it doesn’t use the usual Kanimadala it has two clay pinnacles fixed at the two corners. This Ambalama has undergone a complete overhaul in recent times.
