Located in Mavaddavan village, these Anuradhapura-period ruins cover a 10×10 meter area. The site contains stone pillars, bricks, and tile fragments. Though recently destroyed by treasure hunters and of uncertain exact function, the archaeological remains confirm the expansion of ancient human settlement in the region.

The Archaeological Ruins near Mirankadawai Reservoir are located in Mirankadawai village, within the Grāma Niladhāri Division of Kudumbimalai (209-D), in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Kōralai Pattu South (Kiran).

Access Route

The site can be accessed from Kiran Junction via Pulipanchakal Junction, travelling along Karawanachcholai Road to the vicinity of the Kudumbimalai preschool. From there, continue approximately 4 km along Ollikulam Road towards Mavaddavan village. The site is located approximately 500 meters to the left of the road.

Historical Background

Based on the structural characteristics of the ruins and the scattered archaeological artifacts, the site provides evidence of a building dating to the Anuradhapura period.

Location and Nature of Archaeological Evidence

The ancient building is located on a small plot of land measuring approximately 10×10 meters. Stone pillars and fragments of pillars remain at the site. The structure has been destroyed by treasure hunters in recent times.

Bricks and fragments of ancient tiles are found among the soil excavated during the destruction of the site. Although the specific function of the structure cannot be determined, the archaeological evidence confirms that the site provides evidence of the expansion of ancient human settlement into the area.
