The Prehistoric Burial Site of Dewalapola in Minuwangoda was discovered in 2016 on the premises of Dewalapola Ananda Maha Vidyalaya. Two clay burial canoe has been discovered on the access path to the school. Excavation took place based on  a belief among the locals regarding an ancient burial ground at the school.

Multiple funerary urns had been located on the canoes.  These remains believed to be 3000 years old according to Senior Lecturer Mangala Katugampola from Department of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya who led the excavation.

Some of the urns has been made by hand some by a potters wheel. This indicates that pottery was a industry practiced even as far as 14th centenary BC.
