The Anurādhapura-period Muruthtthanai Buddhist Monastic Site 3 in Kiran features a small structure on private land with seven stone pillars still standing in their original 3×4 arrangement. A Padowanada Gala (stone foot-washing basin) remains nearby, and an associated Siripatul Gala (sacred footprint stone) sits at Mariamman Kovil.

Continue through Pondukalchenai, crossing the Maduru Oya once again on the way to Muruthtthanai. After traveling approximately 19 kilometers (12 miles) from Kiran, you will reach the by-road leading to Mariamman Kovil. The ruins are situated beside the road, approximately 200 meters (660 ft) along this by-road.

Historical Background

Based on the oval-shaped tool marks observed on the stone pillars, it can be concluded that these ruins are the remains of a structure dating to the Anuradhapura period.
