Ottamkulam Archaeological Site in Mannar (ඔඩ්ඩම්කුලම් ඔට්ටම්කුලම් පුරාවිද්‍යා නටබුන්)

This archaeological site lies in the village of Periyakunchikulam of Periyakunchikulam GS division in Kunchikulam Divisional Secretariat. To reach this site, travel 45 km on the Medawachchiya-Mannar road up to Kunchikulam junction. This lies 1.6 km before the Madhu junction. Turn left towards the better-known Kunchikulama Hanging Bridge over Malwathu Oya of the British era.

Travel further down this jungle road up to Periyamuruppu Junction and travel about 3 kilometres on the Kallikulam road and then about 2 km on the Thantirimale road to reach the Ottamkulam (Oddamkulam) Wewa Reservoir. You can reach the ruins in the jungles by travelling about 300 meters on the Ottamkulam (Oddamkulam) Wewa Reservoir road to the right.

At this site, there is a building which has been built using 25 standing stone pillars. The height of these pillars is about 45 cm above ground. The uses of the building cannot be identified based on the remaining architectural features. No effort has been made to find any other archaeological remains surrounding this site or to protect these ruins.

Only the treasure hunters have shown interest in this site by digging and destroying one side of the building in search of treasures. There are fragments of old tile pieces belonging to the Anuradhapura Period on the site. In addition, there are fragments of black and red ware scattered around this site.
