
Sagama Wewa is an ancient reservoir situated on the main Akkaraipattu – Sangaman Road in the Ampara District. The ancient sluice of this reservoir and some granite pillars of an ancient building nearby has been designated as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 10th October 2014, and describes the location as follows;
“Sluice of Sagama lake and nearby stone pillars and other archaeological ruins belonging to village Sagamam in Grama Niladhari Division No. 11C, Sagama in the Divisional Secretary’s Division Thirukkovil in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 07º 07′ 38” N and longitude 081º 48′ 56” E – 07º 07′ 38″,081º 48′ 56″).”
