Archaeological Ruins on the Land of Vairamuttu Nagendran in Kiran

The Muruthtthanai ruins on Vairamuttu Nagendran’s land in Kiran are situated within private property. The site contains a small ancient structure of unknown date and origin, constructed from roughly worked stone blocks and including at least four stone pillars that still stand in their original positions.

Archaeological Ruins on the Land of Vairamuttu Nagendran is located in the village of Muruthtthanai, within the Grāma Niladhāri Division of Muruthtthanai 209-A, in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Kōrale Pattu South (Kiran).

Access Route

From Kiran Junction, travel along the Thureiyadi Road. At Pulipanchakal Junction, turn right and continue through the Napaththawil Wewa reservoir area until reaching the indigenous village of Muruthtthanai. The archaeological site is located on a plot of land containing a house belonging to Vairamuttu Nagendran.

Historical Background

This is an ancient structure for which insufficient evidence exists to determine either its original builders or its precise period of construction.

Location and Nature of Archaeological Evidence

These small structural remains are situated within privately owned land. The constructions have been built using unshaped, roughly worked stone blocks and stone pillars.

At least four stone pillars that appear to remain in their original positions can be identified at the site. Although the surviving evidence is limited, these features indicate the presence of an ancient structure whose function and date remain uncertain.
