Warapalana Sri Jinendrarama Tampita Viharaya is an ancient Tampita Viharaya which lies in the area of the more popular  Maligathenna Rajamaha Viharaya and Pilikuththuwa Rajamaha Viharaya of Gampaha District. According to legend this temple is over 200 years old and was built towards the end of the 18th century by a Vegoda Vipassi Thero.

The Tampita Viharaya is built on 25 granite stumps of about 3 feet in height. The roof is tiled with Sinhala Ulu (semi-cylindrical tapered tiles). The structure is 19 feet long and 15 feet 3 inches wide. A 3’10” high short wall is built around the structure. The verandah is about 3 feet wide and the image chamber is 9 feet 3 inches long and 7 feet 6 inches wide. Roughly cut granite blocks are used for the steps to the viharaya.

Inside the chamber lies a seated Buddha statue. Two standing Buddha statues facing each other lie beside the main statue. These are approximately 6.5 feet high.  Halos around the statues cover the whole body. There are two statues of Vishnu and Kataragama deities on the sides of the two standing Buddha statues. All these statues have been damaged and restored by the archaeology department. The floor too has been restored. The outer surface of the wall lacks any paintings in this viharaya.

Most of the frescoes within the chamber have faded, and it’s believed they were restored or repainted during the British era, meaning the current colors differ from the originals. The primary hues used in the frescoes are red, blue, and black, while the images themselves predominantly feature yellow, red, and black.

This Tampita Viharaya was declared as a protected archaeological monument by the gazette dated 2nd November 2002.
