Thotupala Arava Ambalama is located in the Ambagasdowa area in the Welimada Uva Paranagama electoral division. It is said to be about 300 years old. However, its history has been buried with time.

According to folklore, this ambalama was constructed during the Kandyan Kingdom era to provide rest for travellers on the Kandy-Mahiyanganaya road. Near a beautiful paddy field, this ambalama stands on a raised platform made of stones. Four stone pillars are erected on this platform to support the roof. These stone pillars are roughly cut and placed in their raw form.

Near this area, there is also an ancient Bodhi tree that is revered by the local people. Unfortunately, due to a lack of proper maintenance, the roof tiles of the Ambalama are currently deteriorating. Additionally, the carved wooden beams of the roof are also decaying.

This Ambalama is located on the Welimada-Hakgala road. After passing Ambagasdowa from Welimada and travelling approximately 350 meters, a small concrete road to the left leads towards Thotupala Arawa. After travelling about 50 meters on this road, you will reach the Thotupala Arawa Ambalama.
