The 23m high Galwala Ella Falls only flows during the rainy season and is one of several with origins in the Piduruthalagala mountain range (western slope). Split into three streams, the fall flows down a slight slope of granite. The military used to bathe here but now a dam built across the top of the fall curtails the flow. Pipes carry the water to nearby towns.
Travel 1km along Lady McLom Drive, near the well-known Gayathri kovil, Nuwara Eliya District. Lover’s Leap Fall is in close proximity to the fall.
Traveling from Nuwara Eliya towards Lovers Leap fall, the Galwala Ella can be seen about 1 km before the Lovers Leap fall.
A tank has been built on top of the tank and water is diverted in to the town below. Therefore the water level of the fall is greatly reduced and a full flow can be seen only during periods of rain when there is overflow from the tank above.
About 50 m passing this waterfall another waterfall can be seen through a jungle cover. This is probably a seasonal fall. (see photos below) .
