Gotuwala Ella is so-called due to the name of the village where the waterfall lies. The famous Nine Arch Bridge lies in the village of Gotuwala ( also referred to as Gotuwela).
The Gotuwala Ella waterfall can be only observed from the railway line and you need to hike along the railway track from Ella or Demodara.
If you start your hike on the railway track from Ella Station towards Demodara Station, you can reach the Nine Arch Bridge after 2.5 km. Passing this bridge and travelling a further 1 km you will come to a bridge which the water from the Gotuwala Ella flows beneath the railway track.
But remember this track consists of narrow unprotected rail bridges and narrow tunnels. Therefore it is always a good idea to familiar with the train schedule on the track you are travelling. It is also illegal to walk along any rail track but it’s not always strictly enforced.
