Holike is a settlement created in the 1950’s in Padiyatalawa. The Holike Kollegama Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient temple complex with an unknown history. Many artifacts made of granite including steps with balustrades, granite pillars which are part of ancient buildings, etc can be seen scattered around the temple premises.

It is said that the name Holike was derived from Soli+Kethi which means place which disagreements are settled. The temple premises was declared as a protected archaeological site by the Government with the Gazette issued on 26th December 2014, and describes the location as follows;

“The place with ruins of buildings and other archeological relics at Ancient Temple premises, Holike (Kollegama Rajamaha Vihara) situated in Grama Niladhari Division No. 138, Holike in the Divisional Secretary’s Division, Padiyathalawa in Ampara District in Eastern Province. (latitude 07º22´ 098´´ N and longitude 81º15´ 66.7´´ E).
