Pallewela Ella (Alikoti Ella) is a tall, multi-tiered waterfall hidden in the jungles of Karandagolla along the Ella–Wellawaya road. Flowing in five gorgeous cascades, it has gained popularity through nearby hotels, offering scenic views and abseiling experiences, with access via a narrow forest road.

Pallewela Ella, also known as Alikoti Ella, is a strikingly tall waterfall hidden within the dense jungles of the Karandagolla area along the Ella–Wellawaya road. In recent years, it has gained increased attention, largely due to its promotion by nearby hotels as a must-visit natural attraction.

Features and Setting

The waterfall descends in approximately five distinct cascades over a rugged rock face, creating a visually dramatic landscape. Situated deep within forested surroundings, it offers a secluded yet increasingly popular destination for visitors traveling along the Ella–Wellawaya route. Several hotels in the vicinity have further enhanced its appeal by offering abseiling experiences along the waterfall.

Access and Directions

To reach Pallewela Ella, travel approximately 4.2 kilometers (2.6 miles) from the well-known Ella Ella waterfall towards Wellawaya along the Ella–Wellawaya road. On the left-hand side, there is a narrow, unmarked concrete road that leads directly to the site. The final stretch of the journey passes through a wooded area, guiding visitors through the surrounding forest to the base of the falls.
