Nestled in Kalutara’s Neboda village, Rannagala Ella is a charming six-meter waterfall best experienced during the rainy season. Accessible from Matugama, it features inviting natural and man-made bathing pools at both levels. While popular for its scenic beauty, visitors must prioritize environmental care to combat increasing pollution from left-behind garbage.

Rannagala Ella is a small waterfall located in the village of Rannagala, in Neboda, within the Kalutara District. The waterfall stands at a height of approximately 6 meters (19.7 feet) and is best experienced during the rainy season, when the water flow is at its strongest.

Access and Location

The waterfall can be reached either from Matugama or Neboda. From Matugama town, it lies about 5.7 kilometers (3.5 miles) along the Neboda road. Alternatively, those traveling from Kalutara can reach Neboda and then proceed approximately 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) along the Matugama road to arrive at the site.

Features and Visitor Experience

Despite its modest height, Rannagala Ella offers a pleasant natural setting. At the top of the waterfall, a natural pool has been enhanced with a constructed pond suitable for bathing. A second pool has also been built at the base, making the location a popular bathing spot for visitors.

Environmental Concerns

The growing popularity of Rannagala Ella has led to environmental issues. The surrounding area, including the bathing pools, is increasingly affected by pollution caused by improperly discarded waste left by visitors, which threatens the natural beauty and sustainability of the site.
