Weherapaduma ruins lie on one most remote corners of the Monaragala District in the area called Urupattiyagoda.  This rock plateau where this site is located is scattered with ruins of the ancient Buddhist temple complex of the Ruhunu Kingdom which existed since the time before Christ.

A stupa almost flattened by nature lies atop the rock. Most other buildings have totally dissipated with only granite rocks which had been used in construction scattered around the plateau. Few rock pillars can be seen still standing after thousands of years.

The site is rather unappreciated by the locals and thus unknown to many including the villagers living around the area.

To reach the Weherapaduma ruins you would need to take the Ampara Road from Siyambalanduwa and travel 9.4 km until you come to a 4-way junction. From here take the right turn towards Kuragammana Panguwa (Kuragammana Panguwa).  Travel along this remote route for 11.5 km to reach the area of the ruins.
