Uduwawala is small town between Katuagastota and Medawala in the Kandy Distinct. A small ancient Ambalama (wayside rest) lies on the Uduwawala Junction on the Katuagastota – Medawala road partly functioning as a Bus Stop.
The Uduwawala Ambalama is a square brick and mortar structure. The roof is built on seven brick pillars and and 2 wooden pillars which also serves as the door frame. The brick pillars are cylindrical tapering at the top. The roof is designed in a hip roof style, a popular ambalama style during the Kandyan Era and is tiled with semi cylindrical clay tiles (sinhala ulu).
The seating arrangement of the Ambalama is an typical of then class based Kandyan Society. The benches are designed at different heights to accommodate different classes of people to sit together.
This ambalama was declared as a protected archaeological monument in 2009.
