World’s End Viewpoint is a dramatic cliff with a sheer vertical drop, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and a direct view of the base below. The most renowned World’s End is located in Horton Plains. However, since it lies within a National Park, visitors must purchase entry tickets, which may be costly for those solely looking to hike to the famous viewpoint.
Fortunately, several alternative viewpoints, known as Mini World’s Ends, provide similarly breathtaking vistas in Sri Lanka’s hill country at a much lower cost. Here are some of the best Mini World’s End viewpoints worth exploring.
1] Pitawala Patana Mini World’s End

Located in Riverston, Pitawala Pathana can be accessed by traveling 32 kilometers from Matale along a misty, winding road. A private vehicle would take approximately 1.5 hours to reach the destination. Pitawala Pathana is a grassland plateau that abruptly ends in a sheer drop, offering two viewpoints where visitors can stand right at the edge.
Entrance fees are LKR 60 for locals and LKR 975 (approximately USD 3) for foreigners per person. The entire visit, including the hike, typically takes around 45 to 60 minutes, depending on how much time you spend enjoying the view.

2] Deanston Mini World’s End

This is another Mini World’s End viewpoint located in the Knuckles Mountain Range. To reach Deanston, you must travel approximately 7 km from Hunnasgiriya towards Meemure. The road conditions are poor, so travel can be challenging.
If using public transport, a CTB bus operates on this route from Hunnasgiriya to Loolwatta. It departs Hunnasgiriya between 8:00 – 8:15 AM daily and returns from Loolwatta around 9:30 AM and again at 2:00 PM. Alternatively, you can take a three-wheeler.
To access the trail leading to the viewpoint, you must purchase an entry ticket from the ticket counter. The first viewpoint is about 1.2 km from the starting point, with an elevation gain of roughly 60 meters. The second viewpoint is an additional 800 meters along the trail.

3] Pitamaruwa Mini World’s End in Madulsima

Pitamaruwa Mini World’s End lies in Madulsima, 60 km from Ella and 50 km from Badulla town. Traveling to Madulsima is through winding narrow roads through breathtaking tea plantations.
The elevation of the Madulsima mountain is 1257 feet and is 2300-3400 above sea level. There are 2 viewpoints on this trail.
The final stretch requires a short trek along a marked footpath, beginning near a small summer hut. After walking approximately 100 meters, visitors are rewarded with a breathtaking hilltop view, where distant rock formations like Dehigala and Dorapoda emerge through the misty forest cover.

4] Hulangala Mini World’s End at Selagama

Hulangala Mini World’s End is located at the southern edge of the Knuckles mountain range, within the Selagama Estate. It can be accessed from either Kurunegala or Matale, lying 42 km from Kurunegala and 20 km from Matale town.
Perched at an elevation of 760 meters (2,500 feet) above sea level, this viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The Hulangala hill itself rises to 1,025 meters (3,360 feet), making it a prominent peak in the area. Due to its exposed location, visitors should expect strong winds at the summit.
A small entrance fee is charged by the estate for access to the site. While the viewpoint can be reached on foot, those traveling by motorcycle or a 4×4 vehicle have the advantage of driving all the way to the top.
